Instead of starting Toonami around 11 PM EST like they have been for a while now, Adult Swim decided to prank viewers in an interesting way by airing the season 3 premiere of Rick and Morty without warning, and months ahead of when R&M season 3 is supposed to start airing.

IIRC Gennedy Tartakovsky, the series creator, has said this season will be acting as the show's finale, since his old plans from a decade ago to end the series with a movie kept falling through (CN was reluctant to do a movie due to the Powerpuff Girls Movie being a financial flop, and Sony Pictures Animation wasn't really open to the idea either, hell they even cancelled Tartakovsky's planned Popeye movie).Īs of this post there's been a bunch of controversy among Samurai Jack fans due to April 1 falling on a Saturday in 2017, the day which season 5 episodes are scheduled to air.

Plus there's a scene in episode 2 where Jack argues with his inner self, and his inner self is trying to convince him to commit seppuku (ritual suicide practiced by ancient samurai). With season 5 being on Toonami we've got our first instances of the show having Jack killing human opponents, and plenty of red blood to go along with the action. The first four seasons, due to airing on regular Cartoon Network, were restricted to a TV-Y7 rating, so as such Jack's opponents in the old seasons were mostly robots, and said robots only spewed oil when slashed. So far the show is maintaining the same level of quality I came to expect from the first four seasons that aired on regular CN, though the fact it's now on Adult Swim's Toonami still surprised me a bit during the first two episodes, the second one especially.
